“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” (Proverbs 15:1)
When we are in a position of authority in our company there is a temptation to be harsh. We can easily display emotions that are not appropriate. This is especially true when faced with an angry person.
The wisdom of this scripture is that an unexpected gentle response can disarm a potentially volatile situation. Often when challenged we may assume a gentle answer is a sign of weakness and that authority demands a certain demeanor. This scripture would indicate a better way.
Leadership does not demand that we act in a harsh or distant manner. Our example is Jesus. How did He act? Take a look in the gospels for an example of true leadership in action.
