  • Seeing Clearly?
    Seeing Clearly? -

    “No longer do I call you slaves; for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:15.)

    Openness and transparency, a question of culture and leadership style, or a spiritual mandate? Control is often an illusion.

  • Can I get a Witness?
    Can I get a Witness? -

    Where would we be without witness? Letting people know what has happened to us is a fundamental part of following Jesus. Why do we need to invite people to church to hear about Jesus? The Holy Spirit is the one who convicts of sin, calls to repentance, and brings about the wonderful regeneration of our souls, as we move into communion with the Father.

  • Reconciliation.
    Reconciliation. -

    What is it to have a ministry in reconciliation? When we preach in church we minister to a very small minority. What about outside the church?

  • Money, money, money.
    Money, money, money. -

    There is an often miss quoted scripture that ” Money is the root of all evil”. The verse in question is; 1 Tim6:10, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager formoney, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs”. (NIV)

  • A Call to Business?
    A Call to Business? -

    The short answer in an unequivocal, absolute yes! There is no seperation between the secular and the sacred. You can work out your God given gifts, talents and calling, in a business role , as much as you can in traditional ministry.

    Faithful in hard times.

    “to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.” (Psalm 33:19)

    He is faithful. He is faithful. He is faithful. I say it again He is faithful. He will not let you suffer, and He will deliver you from harm. We need to sometimes stand on the promises of God and declare the victory He has already one.

    These promises are yes and Amen, regardless of the circumstances, the times we live in, the environment, the economy, or the political status. He is our deliverer and our salvation, our ever-present help in a time of need. Speak to those circumstances that seem to overwhelm you and command them to submit to the word of God.

    His strength will sustain you and His promises are always true.

    Quick Prayer. “Keep me faithful in your strength, always.” Amen

    No lack.

    “He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock.” (Deuteronomy 8:15)

    If we crashed in a dessert, how would be survive? It would be hot, arid, and dangerous. Yet God led, fed and protected a vast army of people for forty years in the midst of all that danger. They were watered from a rock, feed daily and protected. Their shoes didn’t wear out and even when they ungratefully demanded meat, it turned up in bountiful abundance.

    There is no lack in God. He will provide all our needs according to His riches in glory.

    Quick Prayer. “Thank you that in you there is no lack.” Amen

    Abundance.

    “LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand and all of it belongs to you.” (1 Chronicles 29:16)

    The promises of God are “yes and amen”. True beyond all doubt. If we are enjoying abundance it comes from His hand. With abundance comes responsibility. By any worldly standard we are blessed and have a responsibility of being a part of building the Kingdom of God. The nuts and bolts of building and serving in a local church are a part of our responsibility. Part of our response to receiving from God is an obligation to help sow back into His work. This should come not out of compulsion but out of a grateful heart, thankful in acknowledging that it has all come from Him.

    Quick Prayer. “Thank you for your promises Lord, and for the responsibility to respond to your generosity.” Amen

    Sustenance.

    “For forty years you sustained them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing, their clothes did not wear out nor did their feet become swollen.” (Nehemiah 9:21)

    In some seasons we feel like it will not end. Maybe you have been through a long time of struggling; a long time of waiting for God to answer. Life can be hard sometimes, I am well aware of that. God’s answers can seem to be held back for an unreasonable time. But if we have engaged our faith and trusted in his timing we will see the hand of God move on our behalf.

    In the meantime sometimes we will need to press into Him and ask for Him to sustain us. In Him there is no lack, the Israelites in the desert “lacked nothing”, as He sustained them.

    Quick Prayer. “Sustain me Lord.” Amen

    God’s riches.

    “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me, put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:9)

    We have leaned from God, received from Him and heard from Him. When we study His word or hear His still small voice we have seen Him. What do we do with these words, impressions, feelings and instructions? We are exhorted to put them into practice. Apply what we have seen of God into our lives, that we may be transformed to become more like Him. The more like Him we are, the more effective we will be in the Kingdom, the more fruit we will demonstrate, and the closer we be to being all we can be.

    And the outcome according to this word is not the peace of God, but something better; the God of peace, will be with us.

    Quick Prayer. “Help me always to be mindful of what you are teaching me Lord.” Amen

    True contentment.

    “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” (Philippians 4:12)

    What is true contentment? What would it take for you to feel truly content? We tend to think of that in terms of material possessions, relationships and circumstances. Paul who was ship wrecked, beaten, stoned, jailed amongst other great experiences, is talking about something much deeper; A peace that goes beyond all understanding, beyond circumstance and experience. It is a contentment that can only be supernatural in origin.

    Imagine being so close to God that all else pales into insignificance. All becomes a shadow, truly in context against the all-powerful light of a totally radiant God. The closer we get to Him the more content we will be. He is the only certainty, the only constant, the only place of true contentment.

    Quick Prayer. “Bring me to a place of true contentment Lord.” Amen

    Revelation.

    “He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.” (Daniel 2:22)

    Daniel knew God. These powerhouse biblical figures have taken on the persona of legends. But they were flesh and blood like us, sinned like we do, failed like we do and had the concerns and worries of life just as we experience. If they were like us we can like them.

    Daniel knew how to pray. He was disciplined to setting aside time to converse with God. He knew God just as we can know God. His time with God was a dialogue with the Creator, not a list of “I needs”. Daniel tells us here that God reveals deep and hidden things, knows what we can’t see and can warn and show us these things. If you want insight into opportunity for your business, you will need to walk with God closer. Insight, wisdom and instruction are accompanied by peace joy and the occasional correction. Listen and learn.

    You can’t argue with God.

    “Who has a claim against me that I must pay? Everything under heaven belongs to me.” (Job 41:11)

    Have you ever been in a situation where you are arguing with God? Do you question His will and wisdom? Are you slow to respond to His prompting or argue the answer to a prayer that may be no, when you wanted yes. Perhaps He treats others in a way you want to be treated, or you expect Him to do one thing when He does another.

    Step back for a moment and think of just how crazy that is. How asinine, how ridiculous. We are the created, He is the creator, we have limited vision, He has unlimited knowledge and understanding. Perhaps if we argued less, gave up resisting and moved quickly to agree and be obedient, we would see much more of the fruit we desire in our lives.

    Quick Prayer. “Forgive me for arguing and not getting on with doing your will.” Amen

    Trouble maker.

    “All his brothers and sisters and everyone who had known him before came and ate with him in his house. They comforted and consoled him over all the trouble the LORD had brought on him, and each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring.” (Job 42:11)

    What! God causing trouble? I am not sure that fits in with my “come-to-Jesus-and-everything-will-be-OK theology. Unfortunately God is bigger than our image of Him or our attempts to put Him in a box. We may have experienced and adopted the ‘milk’ of the word, well this one is more like the ‘broccoli; probably good for you but not a great experience.

    The Lord will allow all sorts of things to befall us. We need to understand the difference between what needs to be submitted to and endured, what needs our persistence to overcome, and that which is an attack to repel. To get that level of understanding, we need an ongoing relationship with God, to lead and guide. If the experience of trouble has been sanctioned from heaven, learn well and surrender fast, it’s a much easier journey.

    Quick Prayer. “If it is you that has allowed this trouble, help me to endure and learn well.” Amen

    Favor.

    “the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.” (Genesis 39:21)

    The Lord showed him kindness and favor, which of us would not want more of that? We who are called to His purposes and surrendered to His will are able to solicit His favor. That can be manifest in many ways, resistance can fall away, hearts of those who oppose us can shift, and we can expect favor from those in authority over us.

    There is something about walking closely with God that creates an atmosphere. This can shift mindsets and circumstances. Sometimes just our presence in a ,place or situation can move opposition or bring resolution. This is no source of pride because it is not us, it is the Holy Spirit who indwells us, and His anointing can literally move mountains.

    Be bold why not seek His will and ask for His favor, you may be surprised just how willing He is to move on your behalf to accomplish His will.
