“So we continued the work with half the men holding spears, from the first light of dawn till the stars came out.” (Neh 4:21)
What is our response when we get opposition? You may be making changes at work that are not being received well. How do we build what God intends and still protect ourselves? Sometimes we just have to persevere.
When Nehemiah was rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem and got opposition, he did two things. First, he put in place a strategy to protect what he was doing and the people who were building. Second, he doubled his efforts and pushed harder to get the job done. Opposition did garner a response and a strategy, but the result was a more determined and motivated workforce eager to get the work of God completed.
Quick Prayer: Help me to persevere with wisdom. Amen.
“Then the peoples around them set out to discourage the people of Judah and make them afraid to go on building.” (Ezr 4:4)
When we step out to be obedient to the call of God, one thing is certain. We will get opposition. If you are walking the way of God, you will get flack from the strangest of places.
One of the favorite ways the enemy seeks to oppose us is through discouragement. You will never get that done. Who are you to do that? That’s too big a dream. You must be joking. That will never work. All that is just within your own head; just wait until others start talking to you.
Be prepared, and expect discouragement from others. Recognize it for what it is, respond gracefully, and set your face like flint. Strengthen those feeble knees, lean into the wind, and go forward regardless of the opposition.
Quick Prayer: Keep me from discouragement please, Jesus. Amen.
