“Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the innocent.” (Exo 23:8)
There is no such thing as a small bribe, just as there is no such thing as a small lie. Satan is the father of all lies, so they come with a hook, usually in the form of an undesired or unexpected consequence.
The same is true for bribery. It can be as insidious as larger and larger bribes beginning to take hold in a life or community. The consequences described here in Exodus say that they blind those who see and twist the words of the innocent. What an accurate yet despicable depiction of truth being corrupted and purity being defiled.
It is important that we not only don’t engage ourselves but that the practice is exposed in order to save those who would be the victims of its inevitable progression.
Quick Prayer: Keep me from all bribes, subtle or obvious. Thank You, Lord. Amen.
