“If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” (1 Cor 13:3)
What is our motivation to give? Giving is a good thing to do. We can give of our time and other resources, including, of course, financially. But why do we do it?
It could well be for a myriad of reasons. We may want to look successful. We may want others to see us as religious, spiritual, or generous. We may give out of guilt or to appease an image of a capricious God. We may give out of fear that if we don’t, God will judge us or not bless us. There are so many false motivations, yet there is only one reason to give or to endure. It is the greatest of all motivations and the purest currency we have: love.
Quick Prayer: I want to be motivated by love—by Your love through me. Amen.
