Are You a Promise Keeper?
“It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay.”
(Ecc 5:5 NASB)
Our integrity is always demonstrated by what we say. Do we offer more than we can deliver? Do we paint a picture that is overly rosy? Do we dangle a carrot in front of our staff that will be hard to meet? The Scripture says our yes should be yes and our no, no (see Mat 5:37). There is no grey, just black and white.
Sometimes it is not easy to say it like it is. Often when circumstances change, we struggle to meet our commitments. Perhaps we should do what we said we will do and let God sort out the consequences. He will honor a stand that is done in line with His requirements of us.
We can live by the Word of God, keep our promises, and run a successful, growing, profitable, influential business.
Quick Prayer: Jesus, You always demonstrated absolute integrity. Help me to walk like You. Amen.
“Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?” (Luke 7:42)
Those of us who know God are a privileged few. We are sinners saved by grace. Our sin has been washed away. We are clean, redeemed, and sanctified. We have the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
Those who have been forgiven much will love much. We have been forgiven so much. How can we even begin to understand the depth of forgiveness that has been given to us who deserve no forgiveness?
How much more should we forgive those around us who sin against us?
Quick Prayer: Help me to forgive as You have forgiven me. Amen.
“I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.” (Psa 16:7)
If you are an entrepreneur or an ideas person, you may sometimes be called a dreamer. Perhaps you are a contemplative person and maybe this label applies to you also. Take it as a compliment.
God can talk to us through our dreams. Even at night He can impact our lives. If you have a dream, take it to Him, and ask Him what it means. God can guide us during the day and talk to us during the night. The Bible is full of people who heard God in dreams. Don’t limit the way that He will talk to you.
Quick Prayer: Guide me through dreams, Lord. I expect to hear You in this way. Amen.
“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.” (Matthew 25:14)
The resources that we have as individuals, and in companies that we own, or work for, are merely entrusted to us. We don’t really own them; they are on loan to us. A return is required, both in physical and spiritual terms. Are we good stewards, do we exercise wisdom and reject the sense of entitlement that so often pervades our thinking?
It is an honor to serve the King and do deal well and wisely with all He has entrusted into our care.
Quick Prayer. “Thank you for entrusting me with so much.” Amen
“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” (Philippians 4:12)
What is true contentment? What would it take for you to feel truly content? We tend to think of that in terms of material possessions, relationships and circumstances. Paul who was ship wrecked, beaten, stoned, jailed amongst other great experiences, is talking about something much deeper; A peace that goes beyond all understanding, beyond circumstance and experience. It is a contentment that can only be supernatural in origin.
Imagine being so close to God that all else pales into insignificance. All becomes a shadow, truly in context against the all-powerful light of a totally radiant God. The closer we get to Him the more content we will be. He is the only certainty, the only constant, the only place of true contentment.
Quick Prayer. “Bring me to a place of true contentment Lord.” Amen
“Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me, put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:9)
We have leaned from God, received from Him and heard from Him. When we study His word or hear His still small voice, we have seen Him. What do we do with these words, impressions, feelings and instructions? We are exhorted to put them into practice.
Apply what we have seen of God into our lives, that we may be transformed to become more like Him. The more like Him we are, the more effective we will be in the Kingdom, the more fruit we will demonstrate, and the closer we are to being all we can be.
And the outcome according to this word is not the peace of God, but something better; the God of Peace will be with us.

“Fear the LORD, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.” (Psalms 34:9)
Is God some big overbearing parent that needs to be appeased? Is He a harsh taskmaster that demands obedience and waits to punish any error? No, no and no. We serve a loving heavenly Father who sent His only son to die in our place. There is no greater love, than His for us.
Yet He remains the creator of the universe, whose footstool is the earth. He spoke all that is into being with a word. He has always been, omnipotent and omnipresent. Our small minds cannot begin to image His overwhelming size, power and strength.
So lets not let His love cloud our awe and sense of fear. That holy fear that is based in respect and acknowledgement of who He really is.
Quick Prayer. “I am in awe of you Lord.” Amen
“For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.” (Romans 11:36)
Wow, here it is; the core of our reason for being, for serving, for Him, all that we have, all that we are, every blessing, every day. All comes from Him. We barely grasp the true meaning of what it is to be a Son or Daughter of the King.
All things were created for Him, and by Him, that He be glorified forever. If all that we have is His, it should all be dedicated to Him, for His use. What do we have in our hand we would struggle to give away? Where is the waste in resources, in time, in finances?
If only we would view our lives from an eternal perspective, how different would our world be?
