Love.

“Better a small serving of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred.” (Proverbs 15:17)

Love is not a word we often use in a business context. Here we are talking about the price we sometimes pay to live a life with a few extras. Getting a balance in life where we know our priorities and see our responsibilities clearly can have a great impact.

We have a need to be loved and to love. Don’t let your work under the disguise of providing, destroy the very people you love. We are called to provide, and that goes well beyond the financials. We have responsibilities for ourselves, our immediate families, those around us, and the greater kingdom of God.

We need to look at our relationships for a holistic perspective in order to judge reasonably.

Quick Prayer. “I need balance in my  life to look after those I love, and I need your help to achieve it.” Amen

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.” (Isa 55:1)

What a wonderful picture of a God who will provide for all our needs and satisfy the desires of our hearts. Freely given in abundance are water for the thirsty and sustenance without us giving anything.

This unilateral giving from a loving God is a demonstration of the heart of God, Who is not looking for anything in return. He wants to provide not only water that will ensure we live and milk to help us grow but also wine for us to enjoy.

It is an invitation to the thirsty—to those of us who recognize our need and that it is only in God that we can find true rest for our souls and satisfaction that knows no bounds or ends.

Quick Prayer: How You freely give is truly staggering to me. Amen.

Do we have the love of God?

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?” (1 John 3:16-17)

I had this printed on my cheque books, so that every time I wrote a cheque I would be reminded. This is the standard we are measured with. If we love God, we will love others and that is expressed in us meeting their needs. Physical, actual, material needs. Where does God want you to express this today. If you pray this prayer expect to have your eyes opened. It is a dangerous one!

Quick Prayer. “Give me the opportunity to meet a need today.” Amen
