“So he called him in and asked him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.” (Luk 16:2)
We are all accountable to someone. We all have a boss, a board, a manager, or someone who has authority over us. There are no lone rangers in the kingdom of God. There is wisdom in community and in the application of accountability.
Spiritual accountability for practical reality makes a lot of common sense. Very few of us want to have accountability, and yet part of the wisdom in walking with God is surrounding ourselves with people who will hold us accountable.
God is into accountability. One day we will all stand before Him and give an account. Yes, if we are born-again, we will not be held responsible for our sin, yet we will be held accountable for what we have done with what we were given.
Quick Prayer: I am aware that I need to be accountable. Help me to be so. Amen.
“The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, ‘Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.’” (2 Kin 4:1)
My God is a generous God. He does supply all my needs. But if I squander his provision, if I am flippant with His generosity, or if I do not have an attitude of stewardship, I will quickly live beyond my means.
The temptation to keep up with the Joneses is a strong one. We live in a material world where we are continually bombarded with messages of the new and the greatest.
While God is fully aware of the society in which we live and what we need to partake in society and be effective, must be careful to be wise with what He has given us. The price we can pay for being out of control and falling into the hands of creditors is too high.
Quick Prayer: I know there is a price to pay for living outside my means. Give me wisdom. Amen.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isa 9:6)
There is so much in this one small Scripture. A child is born, a Son is given, the great gift of God. He has authority and rule, and we are called to be subject to Him.
He is described by the Holy Spirit as being a Wonderful Counselor. He is described as the mighty God Creator. He is described as the everlasting Father and the true Son of the Prince of Peace—a wonderful and complete explanation of the Trinity and the aspects of God.
The added bonus is that the Holy Spirit is our counselor, and we walk with Him every day. Here’s something truly wonderful—that creativity can flow through us.
Quick Prayer: Thank You that You are a Wonderful Counselor. Amen.
“I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.” (Psa 16:7)
If you are an entrepreneur or an ideas person, you may sometimes be called a dreamer. Perhaps you are a contemplative person and maybe this label applies to you also. Take it as a compliment.
God can talk to us through our dreams. Even at night He can impact our lives. If you have a dream, take it to Him, and ask Him what it means. God can guide us during the day and talk to us during the night. The Bible is full of people who heard God in dreams. Don’t limit the way that He will talk to you.
Quick Prayer: Guide me through dreams, Lord. I expect to hear You in this way. Amen.
“If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.” (1 Corinthians 9:17)
As we go about our daily business, we are often so intent on the task we don’t take the time to consider the circumstances of those around us. We are surrounded by people who may be struggling, and dealing with all sorts of family, health or financial issues.
Going beyond the physical; what about spiritual wellbeing. There is an eternity to live, and only one way in. We literally hold the keys to eternal life. Do we believe that? Then what stops us from sharing the good news with others? Pride? What will people think? Will we really let that stand between someone and eternity.
Ask God to open your eyes to those around you. Somewhere in your world today is someone, who needs to hear some truth. And the Truth shall set them free.
Quick Prayer. “Lead me to someone who needs to hear about you today.” Amen
“Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me, put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:9)
We have leaned from God, received from Him and heard from Him. When we study His word or hear His still small voice, we have seen Him. What do we do with these words, impressions, feelings and instructions? We are exhorted to put them into practice.
Apply what we have seen of God into our lives, that we may be transformed to become more like Him. The more like Him we are, the more effective we will be in the Kingdom, the more fruit we will demonstrate, and the closer we are to being all we can be.
And the outcome according to this word is not the peace of God, but something better; the God of Peace will be with us.
Quick Prayer. “Help me always to be mindful of what you are teaching me Lord.” Amen
