“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18)
Ouch. With a scripture like that it behoves us to remain humble. Humility is not a “I’m just a worm” view it is a perspective that agrees with God and a focus that doesn’t exult ourselves at the expense of others.
It is a position that acknowledges that all we have and all we are comes from God. He is the author and perfecter of our faith, all good things come from Him. To think that we are somehow responsible for the gifts we have or the influence we have is not only proud it is also naive.
Quick Prayer. “Forgive me my self reliance, I put my trust in you Lord.” Amen
“Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.” (Ecc 11:6)
I am a big believer in focus. Focused energy and resources will ensure an outcome when applied to a task. However, a diversified portfolio is wise because having all your eggs in one basket contains focused risk.
The same principle applies to what we work on. Some things will work and others just won’t, so trying a number of ventures is not unwise.
The other imperative in this word is that of application. You can’t get away from plain old hard work. A number of different projects require more effort. It is not about diluting your resources; it is about increasing your opportunities. And who knows—maybe it will all be successful.
Quick Prayer: Thank You for variety and not certainty. I will diversify. Amen.
