“And do not show favoritism to a poor person in a lawsuit.” (Exo 23:3)

We are to look after the poor and to heed the call for justice. However, if we find ourselves in a position where we have to judge between a rich person and a poor person in a dispute, we are given a clear instruction.

While Robin Hood may have been deemed a hero for robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, he was still a thief. If we are to judge without partiality and to treat people equally, then this applies to rich and poor alike.

While we are to pity the poor and help where we can, this doesn’t mean being unreasonable to the rich. We are not to favor the poor over the rich but to treat them with equal respect and regard.

Quick Prayer: I will avoid misplaced pity with Your help, Jesus. Amen.
